I live in Ericeira for years and even though it is known for its surfing, the town packs a pretty good punch when it comes to excellent food and great nightlife. Did you know that it is actually home Portugal’s oldest dance club? Isn’t that wild? There are a number of different bars and lounges in Ericeira, each with its own vibe.

I always loved the really laid-back nightlife to match its ageless surfer crowd and parents that often visit the scene. And even though it offers many things to do during the day, it also has interesting options for those looking for a great gin tonic at sunset.

The best part is that you can walk from one place to the next within the village, so no need to drive! Read on to find out which spots are my favorite, have the best cocktails, the best beer, and have an incredible dance floor.

The Most Popular Spots: Ericeira Nightlife

There really is a huge variety of different nightlife spots in Ericeira, each with its own unique atmosphere. Here are some of my favorites:

Hemingway’s

This is where I discovered gin. When I arrived in Ericeira the gin craze had yet to hit. This bar is known for its wide selection of gin, as well as the friendly service. They have over 200 types of gin and have an incredible variety of infusions and combinations to try. I love how they have outdoor seating so when it gets really crowded you can get a breath of fresh air!

Adega

This bar is a favorite among Ericeira locals and visitors alike. Although cocktails and tapas are nothing to write home about, it has a great atmosphere, as well as live music, which makes it a great place to go for a beer with some friends and people watch. I often come here to enjoy the local bands or a new group in town for the weekend.

O Tubo

This bar is known for its great surfing vibe and relaxed atmosphere. It has a large selection of beers and cocktails and often has live music in the summer months. Here people spill out onto the streets and dance until the morning hours. It caters to a younger crowd and is where a lot of singles go to meet.

This isn’t my favorite place, but they do have some pretty cool events which can make it worth swinging by to see what’s on.

Neptuno

This is the most traditional bar in the village and although feels kind of dark and dingy, it’s a blast from the past with all it’s souvenirs hanging from the ceiling and the bar.

The pub has been open for around 40 years and is owned by Fernanda, a lady who looks like Cher and answers to that name! Go and have a drink with the locals and know that it’s always open.

The Best Places to Find Cocktails in Ericeira

You won’t be dissapointed in Ericeira when looking for a good cocktail: there’s lots to feast your eyes on!

Bar do Pedro Pescador

One of the best bars for cocktails in Ericeira is the Bar do Pedro Pescador. This bar is owned by Bandeja, an incredible barman who is always behind the bar and makes a great cocktail.

He also does private events on request: check out the bar’s facebook page to contact him. The atmosphere here is more of an outdoor lounge in a private garden, definitely not to be missed! This is hands down my favorite joint in town.

Indigo

Another great bar is the Indigo. This bar is located out of the village, right on one of Ericeira’s many beaches, Foz de lizandro, making it the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon drink or while watching the sunset. The bar has a wide selection of excellent cocktails, beers, wines, and spirits, as well as some delicious snacks.

Jukebox

If you’re looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, then you should check out the Jukebox. Here fantastic cocktails are on offer and the outdoor seating is a great place to people watch. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a low-key drink while taking in the good music. Try the pisco sour here, it’s excellent!

DogHouse Social Club

This chique bar was recently inaugurated and is a really enjoyable place to have a drink with friends. Their cocktail menu is extensive and the atmosphere is like none other in Ericeira. It really brings things up a notch with its neon lights and mirrored walls. Definitely worth a stop!

The Best of Ericeira Nightlife for dancing

If you’re looking for the best bars in Ericeira to dance until the early hours of the morning, the Ericeira party scene has got some of the most famous options in Portugal!

Ouriço

Head to the Ouriço nightclub. It’s the oldest nightclub in Portugal and customers here are a mix of tourists and locals. Since this place is iconic in Ericeira, every year the outer wall is repainted with a beautiful mural- make sure to check it out!

This club has a DJ spinning tunes until the early hours of the morning, and there’s always something going on. Whether you’re looking for a place to have a few drinks or you’re ready to hit the dancefloor, the Ouriço is the place to be past midnight.

The Best Places for Great Craft Beer

Ericeira bars create a thriving nightlife, and the beer scene is no exception. There are a few great places to find a cold one in Ericeira. Some of the best places for beer lovers are:

5 e Meio

This local taproom makes its own craft beer and cider. It is known for its great selection of beers, excellent pulled pork appetizers, and its laid-back atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach. I love their taster menu – this is a great place to start the evening! Not to be missed!

58 Surf Shop Bar

This hopping bar is popular among Ericeira locals and visitors alike. It is located right above Praia da Empa and gets a lot of surfers after their last ride.

It houses the Mean Sardine Brewery with its beautiful silver vats and has a great selection of on-tap craft beers. They also serve sushi and often have live music events and DJs on weekends, especially during summer months.

The Best of Live Music Ericeira

There are a number of different live music venues in Ericeira. One of the most popular is the Adega, which often has funky acts and live music in summer months. 58 Surf Shop Bar also has frequent live events during the high season.

Barzinho

This place is out of town in Riba Mar, slightly north of Ericeira, but is definitely worth your while. They have live music year-round, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Generally, locals play, but they often have guest musicians playing a range of different genres. This place is always a good time, and the simple food and drink are excellent.

Boardriders Ericeira Bar

This Ericeira bar is a fabulous venue since you can come for the live music and watch the skaters in the skate park below. They have live acts and/or DJs every Friday, year-round.

They offer a variety of drinks and a Poke bowl bar if you get peckish while you’re there. Here the vibe is very laid back and most surfers and skaters will end the last ride of the day at this bar! A definite must!

Ericeira Nightlife Gems: Beautiful Views

If you’re looking for an early drink with a beautiful view, Ericeira has plenty of options.

Mar das Latas

One of the best places to enjoy a drink while taking in the sights. This wine bar has an incredible location with a terrace right on the cliff above Praia do Pescador overlooking the ocean, making it the perfect spot to relax and take in the natural beauty of Ericeira.

The sunset in this place is unforgettable as is the service! Miguel and Ana are always on hand to bring you the best. They truly are one of the best restaurants in Ericeira, so stay for dinner too!

Here, wine, bubbly, craft beer and a number of interesting tapas are on offer, and they often have special events such as oyster and bubbly night, and the likes.

Ouriço Terrace

Another fabulous outdoor terrace to sit out on while the sky goes up in flames at sunset! Since it can be windy up on the cliff, this place is great because you’re slightly more protected due to the plexiglass protection.

This bar is always buzzing with energy, and it’s the perfect place to grab a drink and chat with friends while enjoying the sea view.

Kayak Bar

Ericeira also has a number of beach bars that offer stunning views of the surrounding area. One of the best is Kayak Bar down on Praia dos Pescadores, right on the beach in the village.

I love how you can enjoy a refreshing drink in a hammock or beanbag while watching the waves crash against the shore. It just can’t be beat, really! It’s one of the best Ericeira parties around.

Ribeira D’Ilhas Bar and Restaurant

If you haven’t spent the day surfing, biking or hiking on Ribeira D’Ilhas beach, then going early evening for a drink to watch the sunset is an excellent way to enjoy the sand between your toes and watch the surfers come in for the day.

This place offers some of the best beach front food and drinks I’ve had in Ericeira, and all from the comfort of a beanbag! It also has a very chill atmosphere to go with the stunning beach view. A definite must, especially if you have kids on tow since it’s so relaxed and easy to chill while they play on the boardwalk.
