Since I’ve lived in Ericeira several new options have become staples on the menu, and the chef is always eager to serve up the best plates in the village!

3. Nico’s
The newest option for breakfast food is found in the Praça dos Navegantes, and is called Nico’s. They serve a fabulous brunch platter with a wide variety of breakfast foods to choose from. Since it’s in the square there’s lots of room here for kids to play and pets are welcome too! Brunch goes for a little under 15 per head.

4. Dear Rose Cafe
This is an excellent option with great coffee which has recently opened its doors for breakfast. It offers vegan and vegetarian options in much smaller amounts than GIG, but just as delicious. This place is cozy, but tiny, so make sure to arrive when they open at 10 am sharp if you want a table!

5. Onegai Sushi Bar
Ericeira truly has some of the best sushi restaurants around! My favorite is Onegai, due to the excellent quality of the fish and beautiful presentation. The owner is the sushi man, and you’ll usually find him behind the bar. Kids are always welcome here, although a reservation is almost always necessary due to the tiny size of the place. This place is not to be missed. If you can not get a reservation, order in, you won’t regret it! Lunch or dinner here will set you back about 25-40 Euros per head.

6. Unisushi
If you didn’t make a reservation and Onegai is fully booked, Unisushi is an excellent second choice where you can often get a table. They have a large outdoor seating area, which is great to let kids play on the cobblestones while they wait for food. Dinner here goes for 25- 35 Euros per head.

7. NaOnda Restaurante
If you’re going for lunch, Na Onda on Foz do Lizandro beach is a fabulous option. Here you can laze in the sun at your table while the kids dig around in the sand, or scoot up and down the boardwalk on bikes, or scooters. The sushi here is very good and the view is divine. They also serve other types of food if not everyone in your group likes sushi. Sushi costs about 20 Euros per head, while the rest of the menu goes for slightly less.

The best place for delicious thin-crust pizza is Pizza mobile Sao Lourenco. We love the view and the prices! Here they have kid portions, large booths to fit the whole family, and a huge range of choices. The tables are covered with paper and crayons areprovided for the little ones to keep them busy while waiting. Pedra Dura is one of our recurring pizza joints since it’s right in town, the excellent pizza is made in a wood oven and Luca loves it there! They have a toy box for kids as well as a kids menu and are located on a pedestrian street, which means you can sit out on the terrace and let kids play. Dinner goes for about 20 Euros per head.

We also love going to Jangada because it’s a stone’s throw away from home, and we love the atmosphere. They have a terrace which is great for watching the sunset, as well as an outdoor space with lounge chairs where you can have a drink and take in the never-ending view. The inside seating area is full of plants and surrounds the glassed-in pool, which makes for a very cool few hours. Here, besides offering a variety of different types of food, a selection of delicious gourmet pizzas is on the menu. Lunch or dinner goes for about 20 Euros per head.

Ribeira d’Ilhas Restaurant and Bar offers quite simply an amazing afternoon. Don’t just go because of the interesting variety of vegan, veggie and meat burgers they have on offer, also go to let the kids run around barefoot on the huge deck while you relax on a beanbag in the afternoon sun watching the surfers. This hip joint is right on Ribeira d’Ilhas beach– it’s really difficult to keep your toes out of the sand here. Lunch goes for about 15 Euros per head.

18. Mar das Latas
Mar das Latas is a beautifully decorated space with the most fabulous view and food in town. Come early and have a glass of wine in the wine bar at sunset- you won’t regret it! Then move over to the restaurant next door for dinner.
Here you will find gourmet versions of traditional Portuguese dishes at a very reasonable price, and the chef’s innovation of the day, which is always worth trying. Vegetarian options are available and dinner goes for about 30 Euros per head, not including wine. They also have the best selection of wine in the area. Not to be missed.

Indigo is the new restaurant that opened this year with fabulous results. The view is tremendous, being right on the beach in Foz do Lizandro, and the newly decorated space offers high-level Portuguese dishes which are truly mouth-watering. Sunset here is a must and can be accompanied by oysters, champagne or a cocktail.

20. Mar de Areia
We love to go to Mar de Areia for their delicious grilled fish. You can even watch the man grilling in the entrance. Here the food is simple and delicious and the atmosphere as traditional as it comes. This is one of the oldest establishments in the village and leads you by the nose! Lunch here goes for about 25 Euros per head.

The locals and Portuguese from Lisbon really love TiK Tapas for its simple traditional fare. The bitoque is excellent and their homemade fries are delicious. Seafood is divine in Ericeira, and my favorite and cheapest place to eat at is Marisqueira de Ribamar. Although we do eat here as a family, space is restricted and can be an issue. Here the seafood is piled high on your plate and the service is stellar. Don’t miss the crab dip served in a crab shell.

This seafood restaurant was newly renovated a few years back and the new design around a beautiful blue aquarium is spectacular. Ribas combines fabulous atmosphere with incredible food to create an incredibly sophisticated restaurant. Not to be missed. Make sure to reserve since they are usually full up.
