It’s no secret that I love wine, and the quality of the wine tasting in this tour really tipped the scales for me! On the Lisbon Wine and Tapas Tasting Tour, I got to sample several Portuguese delicacies like artisanal cheeses, Pata Negra ham, sausages, and bread. Each bite was accompanied by five of Portugal’s best wines including a vinho verde and a Port wine.
Our very own personal sommelier explained the history and process behind each selection and we also got to taste some extra-virgin olive oil fresh from Portugal’s groves.
I liked that this experience was before dinner, but we were so full afterwards that we actually cancelled our dinner reservations! It also takes place in a very centrally located wine bar, so if you’re running short on time and want a premium sample of the best of Portugal, this is your ticket.
An absolute five star experience! From the quality of the wine, to the abundance of food, to our incredibly knowledgeable and engaging host, this was well worth the price. Two of the fives members of our group weren’t “wine people” but they ended up loving the experience as well. We had dinner reservations after this experience and three members of our group ended up not going to dinner having been so well fed with the tapas.

I haven’t done this tour, but since Mouraria is my favourite neighbourhood in Lisbon and I love the history of food, I am adding it to the list. Lisbon Walking Food Tour. it also comes highly recommended and teaches you about traditional and modern Portuguese food culture.
There is a wine tasting of Porto and another of ‘Ginjinha’, a sour cherry liqueur, paired with delicious bites, as well as a ‘secret dish’ which changes with every tour, making every experience unique. I love this about this tour!
And even though this isn’t a private tour, I also like that the groups are kept small so everyone gets personalised attention from the guide. From cured meat, sardines, cheese, and ‘pastel de nata’ (Portuguese custard tart), the menu is delectable and definitely worth your while.
Fabulous. Marta was our guide – smart, funny, knowledgeable and a great storyteller. We walked, ate and drank and heard about how foods came into Portuguese society and why they stuck. Nice history lessons while we chowed down. Highly recommend – and get the alcohol upgrade if you want beer with your bifana and red wine with your lunch. We stopped in 5-6 cozy restaurants tucked away in absolutely picturesque corners of the Mouraria neighborhood. We tried a 30 year tawny Porto, we learned about how port wine came to be, heard about the Portuguese Inquisition and why vinho verde is called verde (it isn’t because the grapes are young).
