You and the Sea Ericeira: A Review, Food, and more 2023

My family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at You and the Sea Ericeira Hotel in Ericeira Portugal, a 4-star surf hotel located just 40 minutes from Lisbon’s center. It was such a cool experience that we can’t wait to do it again for another weekend away from it all!

The hotel provided lots of traditional amenities like a spa with massage rooms, a heated indoor pool, an aromatherapy steam room, and a contrast shower. But what really made our stay special was the incredible surfing opportunities that were right outside our doorstep.

The waves around Ericeira are perfect for any skill level, so hubby and my son were able to have an amazing time learning how to surf together. I’m not a surfer girl, so I just relaxed in the sun with my book and enjoyed the gorgeous scenery and my glass of wine by the pool.

The restaurant at the hotel, Jangada, was also something special! The focus on local ingredients was great, especially with all the fresh seafood available. We loved the pizzas from their wood-fired oven too!

You and the Sea Ericeira is located up on a cliff, about a 15-minute walk from the village of Ericeira. It offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and its surrounding areas, as well as easy access to some of Portugal’s best surfing spots.

The beach is just a 10-minute walk away, making it an ideal location for those looking to enjoy some time in nature or partake in watersports like surfing or Stand up Paddling. Charming, whitewashed Ericeira is the perfect seaside fishing village for those looking for sea, sand, salt, and surf!

You and the Sea Ericeira Accommodation

The You and the Sea Hotel offers a variety of accommodation options, from studios to one, two, three, and four-bedroom apartments. We stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment which was perfect for our family of 3.

The apartment had all the amenities we needed including a fully equipped kitchen and a private terrace with outdoor furniture. We thoroughly enjoyed the design and decor in the flat, it made the place feel very welcoming and lived-in.

We also really liked the way they communicate with their guests through Whatsapp. This made booking surfing classes easy, as well as receiving welcome information about the area that I could refer to later.

It’s ideal for couples looking for some quality time together or even extended families looking to share a space with separate bedrooms. It can also accommodate larger groups of friends as there are pull-out couches in the living rooms that can sleep more people comfortably.

All in all, it really does cater to all types and sizes of groups. Since not all flats have a sea view, just make sure you specify when you book.

You and the Sea Hotel Amenities and Services

You and the Sea Hotel offers a variety of amenities and services to make your stay even more enjoyable. All rooms come with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a mini-bar, and 24-hour room service. Adjoining rooms are available as well for larger groups.

There is also an indoor pool with plenty of sunbeds for soaking up some rays or cooling off when it gets too hot. The hotel restaurant is actually designed around the pool, so you can enjoy the view from the pool’s edge or your restaurant table!

The hotel is 100% smoke-free and also has a business center, concierge service, and luggage storage to make your stay even smoother.

One thing we noticed was how all the staff is multi-lingual and very accommodating.

An EV charging station, free outdoor parking as well as an indoor parking lot make it convenient to bring a car.

My favorite part was the spa! For those looking for some pampering, there are spa treatments available on request as well as a sauna, contrast shower, and Turkish bath. I was really impressed with how clean the spa was, and how relaxing it all felt. Check out the spa offerings here.

They, unfortunately, don’t have a jacuzzi, but the rest of the spa makes up for it. The spa closes after 6 pm, but staff will keep it open longer if you request ahead of time.

We also really enjoyed the outdoor garden across the way where our little boy loved to play on the jungle gym, and ride the wood wave with his skateboard. Don’t worry if you didn’t bring your own, you can get one here and join in on the fun. There is also a funky recycled sea plastic bar here where you can have a beer and watch the sunset over the ocean.

Breakfast is included and buffet style. It had an excellent variety and was delicious. My husband, the coffee snob, approved of the coffee and the fresh fruit juice made it even better! With all these amenities and services You and the Sea Hotel is sure to provide you with an unforgettable experience!

You and the Sea Ericeira Activities

At the You and the Sea Ericeira Hotel, guests can participate in a variety of activities to suit their individual tastes. An outdoor garden complete with a jungle gym and wood wave skateboard ramp is the ideal place for kids to have some fun. Every Tuesday and Friday Yoga lessons are available here, so you can do some stretching with an epic view of the beach. If you’re feeling more radical, join one of the skate lessons on a Friday afternoon!

Since Ericeira is the only World Surf Reserve in Europe, the hotel’s proximity to the sea makes it a perfect spot for surf lessons, for kids and adults, from beginners to advanced.

If you’d rather stay closer to land, there is plenty of cliff-top hiking in the area.

Best Time to Go

While we were there in September, the best time to visit You and the Sea Ericeira Hotel is during the spring, summer, and autumn months from May to October. This is when alternative markets are set up in the outdoor space, making for a really enjoyable afternoon in the sun.

It’s worth mentioning that Ericeira has a microclimate, and the temperature is usually cooler than in Lisbon. This means that during summer months you can expect around 10 degrees difference, while in winter it rains frequently. If you’re an avid surfer though, this is when surfing conditions are at their best!

Jangada Ericeira Restaurant

If you’re looking for a unique and delicious dining experience, then look no further than Jangada Ericeira Restaurant. This restaurant offers dishes infused with regional flavors and a touch of the ocean. It’s nice to know that the ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible. Check out the menu here.

Their wood-fired oven produces some of the most mouth-watering pizzas. We had an excellent crispy pizza topped with burrata cheese as well as a delicious octopus dish served with chimichurri sauce.

The atmosphere at Jangada is relaxed and welcoming. From the vast vegetation to the use of old wood and recycled iron in decorative details, this is a place that exudes warmth and charm. If you’d like to order food from the restaurant to your condo, they have an ingenious app which makes it all very easy.
